Is praying to angels biblical?

If you're a Christian and you do not acquaint yourself with the teaching of the bible, you will be tossed to and fro by every wind of false doctrine. False teachings are on a rise and many people are being led astray. Therefore, I beseech thee by the mercies of God to be wise as a serpent. Be an ardent student of the Holy writ, and your profiting will be evident to all.

One way to fish out a false doctrine is simply to compare it with the scriptures. If the doctrine is consistent with God's word, then it is not a false doctrine, but if it is in direct antithesis with God's word, then that is a proof of a false doctrine. Let us apply this basic principle to the subject matter at hand. Is praying to angels biblical? We will view this question in the light of God's word to ascertain whether it is a false or a sound doctrine.

Prayer is a form of worship

There are certain group of people who offers prayers to the holy angels in heaven. They believe angels acts as intermediary between us and God. But is this asseveration scriptural? Certainly not, there is no where written that angels acts as mediators between God and Man. What the bible teaches is that; There is one  God, and one Mediator between God and Men, the Man Jesus Christ, see prooftext (1 Timothy 2; 5).

Prayer in itself is a form of worship and the only being worthy of worship is God and not angels. It is a grave sin to offer up prayer, a sacred ritual due God alone to angels. Angels are excellent beings created by God himself and they are not to be prayed to.

The bible describes them thus: Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?- Hebrews 1; 14

Angels are servants who do their master's bidding. We are not to elevate them to the position of God, for even the best among them is a servant. Why offer up prayer, which is a form of worship to a mere creature, instead of the creator himself?

Angels themselves rejects Worship

The bible says: Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy"-- Revelation 19; 10

And in another place it is also written: I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. But he said to me, "Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God"-- Revelation 22; 8-9

In both instances, apostle John falls down to worship the angel, but quickly the angel rejects such divine obeisance. Those who pray to angels should immediately desist from such unscriptural act, because they themselves are against it.

Apostle Paul by the Spirit wrote this: Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind  (Colossians 2: 18).

People who pray to angels think by so doing they are being humble, but rather pride is at work in their lives. Prayer offered to a creature is an abomination in the sight of God and He detests such prayers.

From the above exposition, is praying to angels a false doctrine? Yes it is, but why? Because it is not taught in the bible, it is not in concordance with what the bible teaches. I exhort whoever that practices such evil act to stop from henceforth, because worship should only be directed to God alone. God bless you
